I’m a millennial. Anecdotally, I haven’t seen as much bashing on gen z at least amongst other millennials. The older folks are going on about hair colors and the typical boomer stuff, but I see more acceptance of the youths amongst my peers. Most notably gen z tends to be a lot better with showing emotions and communication. I think the only thing I’ve complained about is these past trends of kids just ripping sinks and urinals off the walls in bathrooms and other oddly destructive things. That felt like a newer trend that I didn’t experience going through school or really hear about.

Millennial teacher here ('85). I have seen it two or three times maybe. But from people who just basically wanted to complain about everything.

I’m in utter disbelief whenever I hear this kind of comment. The young generation is fantastic, and I just hope they’ll keep their resolve to revolt and Wil manage to avoid the traps our generations fell into.

Older people like me should never judge the young. We should either help them, root for them or apologize to them (what a world we welcome them in…).

The first sentence in your second paragraph, when you say, “utter disbelief”, are you taking what I said as an insult towards the newer generation or are you referring to the OP comic strip? If so, I’m not trying to insult them at all. I’m a big fan as a whole, just minor fries from some bad actors that don’t represent the generation, but happen to be a part of it.

Ah, no, not at all sorry. As you may have guessed, I’m not located on an English speaking country, so I may not phrase my thoughts well. My message was an echo to yours, I was referring to insults towards the newer generation in general. My starting point echoed yours : I rarely hear those, but when I do, this utter disbelief kicks in. I hope that clarifies my point!

No need to apologize, you were clear, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t misreading. I think general when I hear or use the words "utter " it’s usually about something bad or whimsical. Not that it has to be, rather it’s just how my mind initially interprets it

I have seen it before on various social medias. Some are mad about their slang (“frfr” or that skull emoji), others being mad about their memes and some such.

Funnily enough, I saw pretty much the same comments being thrown on millennials during the 00s.

      Some things never change.

As a member of gen Z, you likely don’t notice it because you’re not part of the generation being made fun of. It’s a pretty constant issue and it didn’t magically stop with millennials. It’s to the point where many older members of gen Z insist they’re actually millennials in an attempt to gain bownie points with the older generations by not being part of the generation they hate (which never works BTW.)

I do see it, but consistently call it out if I can. I like to use the example of POGS if anything regarding viral trends or whatever comes up. POGS were just printed pieces of cardboard that encouraged gambling, and we morons ate that shit up.

Millennial here, I see nothing exceptional about my made-up generation. Yeah we got fucked pretty bad I guess with 9/11, financial crash (remember occupy wall street?) but that’s nothing compared to what’s about to come, we were probably among the least impacted from COVID so at least there’s that.

Being born a certain year doesn’t magically give you special distinct traits, this ain’t astrology.

Boomer for me is a derogatory term for people with a very special mindset, independent of age. The rest IDGAF about.

Though my favorite meme about generations is https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/30-year-old-boomer

I’ve only ever seen a zoomer start the fight like once. Every other time I"ve seen this generation wars bullshit it was some kinda “kids these days” comment from someone who’s only a few years older than most zoomers.

Other than that, most zoomers I know are usually in on the joke.

The biggest problem with Gen Z is that they’re disillusioned way too young. You need those dreams alive when you’re young and full of energy. Kids used to rebel against their parent’s jaded attitude, but Gen Z ate it up. I mean, yes there are a lot more things to be disillusioned about now, but you’re not supposed to be crippled by those at such a young age. Otherwise they seem great. They have compassion and empathy, and they’re open to new ideas. If only they had the belief that they could change things instead of feeling beat down at the ripe old age of 20.

They also have therapy tiktok/yt. I can’t imagine the headstart some of them are getting in terms of understanding and dealing with the issues they/everyone faces. That’s something legit incomparable to anything that came before, imo.

Granted, I have no idea the ratio of younger folks on therapy-/book-tok verses on those crazy conspiracy and new age/spiritual stuff.

We have this fixation on generations. I think it’s more to unite our own personal identity with change. This is supposed to happen at age related milestones and the social roles we take as we age. However, this phenomenon has been hijacked by media cycles of “eras”.

Generations were a fad in the 90s where you’d hear something about some such generation every day. Then for the most part, people stopped talking about this pseudoscience nonsense. Although, like horoscopes, they never really went away. But I don’t get how we’re back a nearly useless model of behavior being a daily part of conversations.

I doubt I will blame Gen Z for anything anytime soon.

The problems in the world aren’t caused by young people, yes not even Tiktok. Because Tiktok wasn’t created by a young person.

I’d rather blame the ones actually responsible. Like Boomers, who still have too much power.

Unironically doctors quite like self diagnoses from my experience (provides you use reputable sources such as the NHS website and you aren’t trying to treat it yourself and asking a doctor for a professional opinion)

It gives them something to go off of/test for.

A good example is when I had anaemia. I was correct, but if I self medicated (which some idiot told me to, I rejected their advice) I would have taken iron. Turns out it was actually a folate deficiency, but the GP knew to give me a blood test because I suspected I had it. At least in the UK, if they didn’t like you telling them about your self diagnoses, the NHS website wouldn’t exist. The correct thing to do with your self diagnoses is to take it to a doctor, not treat it yourself.

(Actually her attitudes and behaviours are more stereotype Boomer than anything.)
