A survey shows perceptions of the Florida governor’s favorabilty have dropped, even among Republicans, as he refuses to back down in a feud with Disney.

Yeah, I came here to say this isn’t a blow if it still works for him. I hate the guy as much as anyone else, but it this isn’t anything yet.

where would Disney go if they pulled out of Florida entirely? it’d have to be somewhere warmish, I cant see them moving to Maine/Michigan/Montana

They do have a large presence in California already. But I don’t see them fully pulling out of Florida at all. They’ll keep what exists here, but I wouldn’t expect much further growth in the short-term.

They basically became their own county, maybe they will set their sights on controlling the state somehow. Hard to do business with the possibility of crazy governors and legislatures.

if a lower population state was warmer year round I could see them moving over time - easier to control if there’s less opposition. and what happened in Florida is a good lesson - for governments/policy makers as well as corporations

The problem I see is them being willing to put in the money required to buy up that much land. They were able to build as big as they were in Florida because they were able to buy up a bunch of swamp land using shell corps and then develop it all during a time where there weren’t as many (if any) environmental policies. Even if they were to try and buy and develop a bunch of swamp in say Louisiana or Mississippi and use the same plans, the environmental cost of disturbing that much swamp land is astronomical.

Better for him if his ambitions die this year instead of in a bunker with his dog and girlfriend after he’s destroyed our economy and ruined millions of lives.
