Hostile? Exaggerated in my opinion. I support letting anti-LGBT and other anti- people speak in a not toxic way. The problem is people who lose special benefits over others in cases like this always tend to exaggerate and say that they’re threatened which is pretty ridiculous. If Facebook really is just banning LGBT members though, that is too much.

Not really but this is how FOSS networks (Revolt and Lemmy in particular) made me be so like I’m not sure who’s at fault here and it’s not really the topic anyways.

What’s the worst? Something very obscure probably. However Mastodon and Lemmy are very opinionated now so they’re only really suitable for closed communities which is fine but it’s not what they advertise themselves are and it’s not something I consider what makes a good overall social network.

Facebook certainly has a lot of issues but it’s way better for the mental health of sane individuals who can deal with disagreements imo.

As for the hiding issue, can’t you just open your “Friends” or whatever it’s called tab?

Also I do agree that alternatives have way more user-focused design but the mentioned issues of them are absolutely massive to the point that I personally cannot recommend them as social networks.

For those who don’t want to watch the entire video: Facebook + Linux situation was partially resolved already. This is very good news because imo Facebook is the best social network at this point (though still privacy hostile and far from ideal).

Bad news in my opinion. Everyone has a different one. Switching to niche social networks will reduce the target audience and don’t even get me started on the moderation issues.

Well performance is important and Rust is fast on paper afaik but idk how it works in real use cases. I don’t remember seeing performance benefits on Rust compared to other languages that are not C.

That’s still a problem. It really doesn’t make the community look good. I think that also creates an issue similar to Big Tech networks where you don’t get opinions from all sides of arguments (unless you have many accounts on many instances).

Well Facebook is the only platform to allow my political opinions so I do have a sweet spot in my heart for it. But the decision is weird indeed.

Well a lot of stuff for Linux is reverse engineered and some is just copied (WindowsFX, ElementaryOS etc). Kali Linux is also a thing.
