The nostalgia hit me hard so I ordered this off of ebay this week. 30GB. Color screen. Just like the one I accidentally left on an airplane back in 2007. Kick. Ass.

(and thanks for nothing, American Airlines!)

I’ll never forget actually winning a 4th gen iPod through one of those “shock the monkey and win an iPod” things.

You had to sign up for some magazines or some shit, and then get five people to do the same thing under you.

At the time I had DSL that gave me a new IP address every time I connected. So I was able to pretend to be six people and do it all myself. I couldn’t believe when the fuckin thing actually showed up at my door.

The Internet in the early 00’s was fuckin wild.

Now there’s some 2000s stuff, right there. I forgot about that kind of marketing they used to do.

I feel like the spinning hard drive is part of the charm though! But I’d be keen to do some of the other mods like USB C, Taptic Engine, bigger battery or custom OS, this is all so cool

Same. Except I’m gonna keep mine totally stock, even with the scratched up back cover.

First of all: gratz on your awesome purchase!

Any advice on buying a used iPod? Which ones to avoid and which ones still hold up?

Oh man, I’m no expert or anything. I guess just the standard stuff: check out the seller, make sure they appear legit.

I watched a video yesterday (Denki, I think?) where he said people seem to be looking for the 5th Gen, v5.5, for the specific DAC they used inside the iPod. I don’t know about that. I didn’t get this for the audiophile experience, eh.
