    I thought we already knew this, and it was policy not to fight every fire. Oh well.

    Pretty sure we don’t fight everything in California; we really just try to protect homes and businesses from burning down from them. Though there are still hella places up in the foothills where this is the biggest danger that don’t follow fire safety when it comes to landscaping and will have trees from the forest all the way up to the side of their house. You’re supposed to have some kind of empty space for a certain distance as a fire break.

    Haven’t had a chance to read the article, but I’m guessing part of the problem is that us pesky humans live in all the forests and get in the way of the little flames.

      Not at all. We kept the underbrush from burning in small amounts for so long that the forests are sitting on piles and piles of dry tinder just waiting to be set ablaze.
