it will be political suicide for whichever party decides to do it, and will create a new spring of radicalization on top of giving potential radicals military training. if they decide to do it in a bipartisan way it will be even worse for radicalization. I think people forget that the ruling class didn’t end the draft because they wanted to, they had to, the rate of fragging in vietnam became ridiculous

        The Democrats will do it.

And if that drives off the libs, the Republicans will make boogeyman noises or proffer the idea of Trump being able to get a 3rd term. And the liberals will rally round their blue-no-matter-who chant even as their children get carted off to whatever fucky warmongering the US is getting involved in next.

That’s absolutely how it will go if the US decides it needs the draft.

Some straw man will be created as the new “threat to democracy”. Could be Trump, could be whoever else.

If people are already willing to vote for actual genocide just to keep out trump, the draft wouldn’t be such a stretch. Just implement a system where you can make a “freedom donation” to exempt your family and rich white liberal families would have no objections.

What else are people gonna choose? Third party? Hell, they’re already dismantling what limited, farcical “democracy” exists in many people’s eyes by conducting lawfare against and trying to prevent their primary political opponent (Trump) from running.

Not disagreeing with anything you said, but I expect beatings will continue until morale improves (or something explodes). There is no political will amongst the establishment for anything but a continued march to destruction- unrestrained imperialist hegemonic behavior abroad, neoliberal societal destruction at home.

What else are people gonna choose? Third party?

if 1 party does it unilaterally, the other party will win the next x elections very very easily. if they both do it together, I think that would be unironically very dangerous for the empire. the american left, as much as I despise ourselves, is the strongest it’s been since the 60s/70s, instituting the draft would be enough of a major boon for us, that even with our dubious theoretical and organizational capacity, could begin to be a major nuisance to the ruling class (just expanding on what i mean)

Even they did, the primary isn’t issue willingness but physical fitness.

No, it isn’t. At least in the Navy. That is what boot camp is for. Because they are so desperate, they have very low expectations for physical fitness and plenty of wavers if you have any reason preventing you from signing on.

Standing behind every person willing to join the military is 15 chuds wearing American flag t-shirts glorifying US troops while being too big of cowards to actually join. lol

The cuts will mainly be in already-empty posts — not actual soldiers — including in jobs related to counter-insurgency that swelled during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars but are not needed as much today. About 3,000 of the cuts would come from Army special operations forces.

No actual soldiers lost from the ranks.

According to the plan, the Army will cut about 10,000 spaces for engineers and similar jobs that were tied to counter-insurgency missions. An additional 2,700 cuts will come from units that don’t deploy often and can be trimmed, and 6,500 will come from various training and other posts.

    Desk riding soldiers positions cut.

There also will be about 10,000 posts cut from cavalry squadrons, Stryker brigade combat teams, infantry brigade combat teams and security force assistance brigades, which are used to train foreign forces.

Actual direct combat troops positions cut.

In response, the service launched a sweeping overhaul of its recruiting last fall to focus more on young people who have spent time in college or are job hunting early in their careers. And it is forming a new professional force of recruiters, rather than relying on soldiers randomly assigned to the task.

HAHA… professional recruiters instead of soldiers doing a recruiter duty rotation… what could go wrong?

Potential Enlistee: “So, have you been to combat?”

    Recruiter: “No.”

Potential Enlistee: “So… um…how long have you been in?”

    Recruiter: “Oh… about six months”

Potential Enlistee: “No, I mean, how long have you been in the Army, no just doing recruiting duty?”

Recruiter: “Oh… I enlisted to be a Recruiter and got out of AIT six months ago. Was assigned to this desk after I graduated and have been here since”

    Potential Enlistee: “…”

      Stryker brigade combat teams

Wait, didn’t they make a big show of those? Claiming they’re some kinda new and unique invention in military science and whatnot?

Iraq for sure and possibly Afghanistan.

They were supposed to be a rapid deployment moderately armored infantry delivery and support platform.

Turns out they are just an extremely large and unweildy truck with a big gun on top that you can’t often use without killing your dismounts.

my guess is they intentionally let recruiting lapse. COD is still the most popular game RN.
