Do we think anyone will actually agree to publishing their fuel prices online to be compared with others’? I highly doubt it.

AHH yes. Urging large companies to do something for the betterment of their customers. I’m sure that’ll do it.

There are already price tracking communities. All the govt. would need to do is start a system letting people submit data (either civil service, or general public), and the same aim would be achieved.
What they may be doing at the moment, is giving the retailers a last chance to do it on their own terms.
