Had a nice day; no complaints. Staying up late tonight to catch up on some things. No wildfire smoke. Did some research on making a Hackintosh for fun. Chillen with my family for the 4th; no major plans. Just resting and taking it easy. How’s everyone else doing?

After the Canada fire sent smoke all the way to Florida, I no longer have any idea where someone is when they talk about wildfire smoke

Close to New York. It was horrible here for a while. Apocalyptic amounts of haze. Yet people were still riding bikes, mowing lawns, running, and so on. Air quality index was over 300 for a bit.

Here in southeastern new england we mostly avoided the qorst of the smoke, though still it was pretty bad for a day or two

Couldn’t imagine what NY was like!

Truely it was aweful. Visually we couldn’t see the mountain range from 500ft away. Everyone stayed indoors with the AC on (we are lucky; we have a whole HEPA and several room HEPA units.

Conversation wise how was your 4th? We had a family gill out and a few beers and a bit of vape. Really relaxing. Had time to work on my project laptop (the Hackintosh; converting a Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 7 to be able to triple boot). Did some admin; lowkey.

Pretty good. Was accepted for a masters program that I was already made peace of being rejected after someone ditch off and left one spot free. Im also in the last step of a job process that I really don’t care if im accepted or not because I can choose the option of not working and get paid by the university while I get the masters.

My dad gave me a cheap radio receiver that plugs into the USB port on a computer, and I built an antenna for receiving images from weather satellites.

Here’s the antenna (it’s just a plastic pipe, a couple pieces of perforated steel strap and some threaded rods, nuts and washers):

And here are some of the images I received yesterday from the NOAA-19 and NOAA-15 satellites respectively (with a map overlay):

Two days ago I let my heavy glas water bottle drop right on my left foot, so that it bruised and bled right away. Today I get an Amazon delivery and I know the guy just rings once, waits a couple of seconds and then leaves. So I ran to the door, but I slipped and I hit my right foot on the door full speed. Both my feet hurt while walking. I am having a day in bed now. Hope your days have been better, folks.

For one I quit drinking around four months ago. I finally bought a camera and a bunch of gear. I’ve been heavily focused on studying filming and post production again. I haven’t worked on anything film related since around 2007. Feels really awesome, like I have a purpose again in life.

Hey, that’s fantastic! Well done for leaving drinking behind, it is a really tough time. What kind of film project are you working on?

Thanks I truly appreciate it! It was tough but well worth it. I’ve been doing promo vids for local musicians. Working on some scripts for a sketch comedy channel I’m starting with some buddies. Then the goal is to finally make a short horror film sometime in the next year. Super stoked!!

Pretty good actually. I did my laundry, then hung out with a friend of mine I haven’t seen in like a week. Saw some really nice butts on my walk too. We went to go watch the fireworks display, but they ended up moving the show to the 5th. Oh well, at least we got to catch the Blood Moon as it rose above the horizon, that was pretty dope. Looked like the Castlevania box art.

Tried to get some work done before tomorrow’s holiday here in the US. Made dinner for the kids. Spent some quality time looking at beans here on Lemmy.

Spent the day painting. It was a stat holiday up here in Canada. I worked all day because I’m going on vacation on Saturday and need to have all my open projects wrapped up. So I don’t mind that I painted all day in 30+ degree heat and sweated my bag off because I’m ON SCHEDULE. And painting pays pretty good.

I actually felt productive today, which is nice. I don’t usually feel that way that often. I did some laundry, caught up with a friend I haven’t heard from in a few months, finally caught on up me email, and did some more laundry lol. It’s hot as fuck here too, I got all my fans running.

I had to rescue a skunk today that was trapped in a pit filled with water. Fortunately didn’t get sprayed.

Not bad, been a good day actually. I have today and tomorrow off for the holiday, so it’s been a nice long weekend.

I woke up early and did my meditation, then stretched and got a good workout in. Then did the dishes and mopped kitchen floor. That left me feeling quite productive and totally justified in sparking up the bong and playing video games for the last few hours.

Yesterday I (30m) hosted my first house party ever! I had 6 friends over, plus my brother and I, for 90 min before I was all socialized out and the party concluded.

It all happened because 2 weeks ago I watched the Ethan Chlebloski video on balsamic vinegar, and I searched and found some traditional balsamic vinegar that instead of costing $33 - $50 / oz, was less than $1/oz! And from what I can tell, yes it is legit. It just is an import blend from multiple Italian manufacturers and sold by a California company called Calivirgin. So instead of a single certified vinegar from one manufacturer that is a guaranteed specific age, it’s an uncertified blend of vinegars from Italy that is aged “up to” 18 years which is fine by me if it’s 98% less costly!

So after reading tons of glowing reviews for this “Calivinegar” product, I ordered a gallon jug for $125 ($112.50 after a 10% coupon I found after some googling) and I planned to open it at my house party which we did.

It was delicious! Everyone loved it! The label says only 10 cal and 2g of sugar per tablespoon, but it’s really sweet and thick, just like the balsamic in the video. I also bought empty hot sauce bottles and gave each of my friends one of them to take home too, and one of their wives texted me after that it was the best they’d ever had too! Then we watched fireworks later that night, and watched an episode of the Orville. Overall, a really really good day. 😊
