I got a library card recently and realized they have a bunch of DC Comics animated movies I’ve never heard, so I’ve been taking out lots of those lately. Aside from that, I picked up Jacob’s Ladder on my last trip. Haven’t watched it yet.

I’ve been watching the original Halloween movies.

I understand why people don’t like the later ones, but I still like them, overall.

Casa Bonita Mi Amore! - Documentary on the reopening of Casa Bonita, an amazing gigantic 50,000 sq ft. cross between a Mexican Restaurant and Disneyland. The guys who created South Park ended up buying the place out of nostalgia thinking it’d just need some new carpet and a coat of paint to get back to its glory days but quickly realize things are a lot more complicated. Truly captivating stuff.

Just watched Cobweb last night. Really love how Halloween is worked into the setting but doesn’t matter at all for the main plot. Works great as a “Just Before Halloween” movie.

Also watched Night of the Living Dead over the weekend. Really impressed how perfectly Romero nailed the quintessential zombie movie before there were zombie movies.

Recently went to a screening of the 1922 Nosferatu with a live accompanist creating an improvised soundtrack on violin, piano and waterphone - which was not an instrument that I had not encountered before, but evidently features in the score of The Matrix, Aliens and a range of other films. I can certainly see why - it was extremely atmospheric. I had seen Nosferatu a couple of times before - as well as the 1979 Herzog version, and Shadow of the Vampire (2000) - but this definitely added something new.
