You also don’t have to be dumb to fall for scams. (Though it certainly makes it easier.)

If they hit the right timing and get lucky with circumstances, they can get just about anyone.

Also most scams have been aimed at boomers. They’ll look different when they’re aimed at millennials.

Sinclair is pretty insidious. They’re like the old Fox News. Their stories dovetail neatly with unbiased news while being biased. So they can watch NBC national and just get reinforced.

Honestly, keeping the news on all day is just poison anyways. Even a well meaning channel like CNN (although they might be going down the hole) can cause feelings of depression or desperation just because of what we consider to be news worthy. And then people are still stuck looking around for easy answers because CNN was responsible about not biasing the story.

I hate it and am so glad none of my immediate family watches it or even has cable.

It should be illegal to present entertainment as news and opinion as fact to a global audience. There should be real life jail time (not fines that are only for the poor) for the business owners

When a society in the future figures this out, the world will be a better place.

Consensus? So when Newsmax fact checking says something isn’t true, you can’t achieve consensus?

Look, the problem is that there’s no way to do this where you don’t run into problems.

If you say it’s a government agency that does the fact checking, then you run the risk that one of the parties messes with that government agency so that the facts always favor its side. If you leave it to private companies, then there’s nothing to stop highly partisan companies from claiming to be fact checkers. If you say the courts can decide, you have a problem when the courts are biased. If you have an elected council of fact checkers chosen by popular vote, you’re relying on voters having enough knowledge and integrity to select unbiased fact checkers.

Hopefully not our current supreme court, because that’s where any rehashed version of the fairness doctrine would undoubtably end up. And from the purely originalist stance that this court would obviously take, it is a pretty cut-and-dry first amendment issue.

There’s also the point that truths and facts are two totally different yet related things. Truths are the subjective interpretations of objective facts.

Two people can experience the exact same thing and have a wildly different telling of the exact same events. Neither are necessarily untruthful, but through the omission or inclusion of various facts and context, hell even tone, the truth can be told wildly different ways.

This is quite obvious when watching different news networks cover the exact same event.

Politicians ought to be held to that same requirement, you aren’t allowed to knowingly lie.

Shows that America didn’t reject women presidents in 2016 so much as it rejected Hillary. The next step on a carefully laid out career path does not a great president make.

If she had divorced Bill in the 00s, she might have had a chance. Staying with her blatantly cheating former president husband just looked like an old school “divorce is bad optics” decision rather than a more feminist “I don’t need a husband that doesn’t treat me well”. Which didn’t work well when she was trying to run as the latter.

Her entitlement didn’t help, neither did the Democrat establishment working to prevent the progressive option but being willing to back her. Neither did empowering Trump as an opponent she thought she’d get an easy win for when in reality she was the perfect candidate for him to run against.

Even if she made every right choice, the Republicans had been smearing her name for 24 years before she ran for president. Her attempt to simultaneously be elected most entitled person certainly didn’t help. But I think that’s why we nominated Biden in 2020. The watch word was electability because we all saw what decades of FUD did to Hillary.

It’s hard to separate cause and effect there. Was she unliked because of the FUD or did the FUD stick because she was unliked?

It was a close election so it was a perfect storm of a bunch of things lining up all at once. Given how close it was, if the FUD did cause the outcome, avoiding some of those errors might have been enough to win.

Her problem was that she couldn’t conceal her contempt for most people (or gave off an aura of self-superiority if you prefer that take).

She particularly gave off an air of scorn towards non-career women, which is pretty dumb when you need them to vote for you.

I am sorry for your loss. I was referring to chuds.

Now I’m still talking about chuds but curious why they are now CHUDS, is that significant? I am not steeped in chud (or CHUDS) culture and appreciate the insight.

Well, I personally don’t see the appeal, but as long as you aren’t hurting anyone, I wish you the best of luck.

I will say, though, just as an aside, that it’s odd to me to say “cannibalistic humanoid”, because cannibalism can only be committed against the same species, but the term humanoid seems to describe something up to a range of species.

So it’s as if we are saying, I don’t know what species a CHUDS is, but whatever it is, it is humanoid and that’s also the species it preys on.

But surely we must determine the species of both the predator and the prey to determine that they are both the same species, in which case why the generalized term?

It is quite a vexing problem. This is great weed.

Last night’s Daily Show had a good segment on him.

He’s basically just a normal “dad”. Was a teacher and a highschool football coach, genuinely enjoys spending time with his family, sometimes is wrong but listens to others and is open to changing his mind.

It’s an incredibly low bar, but dude seems to be a decent human being.

It’s not any deeper than that.

I recently heard the phrase “the bar for men is in hell”. At first I thought they were talking about a drinking establishment for men with the devil. No, it’s saying that the bar for men to get over to be a comparably decent person is so low, it’s in the depths of the earth in hell.

Like, there are so many absolutely terrible men that someone who doesn’t inappropriately touch and does listen most of the time by comparison is like an Olympic gymnast

And yet I catch motherfuckers every day absolutely killing the devil himself in a limbo competition in his own home.

can I ask how you spend your days, that you’re able to find so many on the daily?

not doubting you, at all, just curious as to the frequency.

I work in a corporation that manages self storage facilities.

They’re above, below, in customers, and in the cracks.

          Eh…

Kamala is also benefitting from where Biden and Trump have set the bar.

So in this scenario it’d be more accurate to substitute politicians for men in that saying.

I live in Georgia, Walz isn’t going to get the hardcore Fox News and MAGA idiots. However, I could see more than a few Kemp voters (basically, moderate conservatives who went Ossoff twice and Warnock thrice) going for Harris/Walz. Further, suburban Atlanta has a lot of people turned right the fuck off by JD Vance. He’s definitely viewed by a lot of OTP folks as yet another crazy person either hand picked and/or enthusiastically endorsed by Trump (like Loeffler, Purdue, and Walker… people felt like these three idiots were forced upon us by Trump). Those people probably won’t vote Harris/Walz, but they just might not show up or, if they do, they might leave the top of the ballot blank. Trump knows his electorate and knows how to play to them, but he doesn’t get Georgia. Kemp is the key to understanding this.

Our governor is Republican Brian Kemp… he’s definitely on the right wing of the party, not a moderate by any stretch of the imagination, but he’s a savvy son of a bitch when it comes to elections in this state. The vibe check on him is: sexist/racist/homophobic uncle who diplomatically holds his tongue at Thanksgiving even if others don’t and things get heated. He believes some wild shit, but keeps it to himself in mixed company (read: armchair racist).

He’s quietly distanced himself from Trump for nearly a decade now. Never pushing the former president away, but never fully embracing him either. Trump and Kemp have a love/hate relationship; Kemp needs the far right MAGA idiots to keep voting for him, but Trump can’t find the center of Georgia politics anymore. In 2020, Biden found that center when 11,780 moderates held their noses and voted for him because Trump was embarrassing them. Having Walz lead the charge on messaging and stump speeches is the best card the Harris team can play in the state if they want to win it… in Georgian statewide politics, Kemp could stump hard and barely beat Harris, but still win. However, he’s got nothing to put up against someone like Walz. Walz, as a person, is literally the kind of voter Kemp courts.

Kemp campaigning against Walz looks like this: Who do you like more? The uncle who’s nice, but you know he’s talking shit about your gay kid on the car ride home OR the coach at the local school who’s nice to everybody and thinks your kid has real talent. Who would you vote for? That’s the reason Georgia is at a statistical tie right now.
