The news items and social media links appearing when hovering over a game were there since I got my PS5 back in January of last year; it just only does it for certain, high popularity games. The only three I had before the recent UI changes that saw this were Demon’s Souls, Warframe and Infinite Wealth.
I’m sure they would also appear in the new hub section by default for every game you “follow” and simply adding a game to your library (buying it, claiming it, or installing it from PS+) automatically follows the game.
I certainly don’t see ads or news items on my hub screen after customizing it and unfollowing everything. I just see my trophies and progress since that’s what I customized it to show.
The ‘welcome hub’ update was pushed in the US first and I haven’t got yet - at this point I’m thinking about disabling updates until they sort this bullshit.
But I already got unsolicited news feed notification I haven’t subscribed to at least twice and they cannot be hidden. There was an ad for superbowl and whatever they were advertising (a streaming platform? Don’t remeber) wasn’t even available in my region (not that it being available would make this acceptable).
Another one is showing right now. An ad to pre-order Metro - game I don’t follow. It’s a feed from “PlayStation”.
