I had a dream once that AI captured the famous personalities of one generation, and kept them going long after their deaths.
The famous actors of the latest generation were mostly the same as the famous actors when AI was created hundreds of years prior, now run by silicon instead of blood. So after many generations, society still circled around these same personalities.
The AI used this layer of ego to effectively communicate with the human population. The mimics were far more popular with humans than fully generative personalities. The humans in this scenario seemed happy enough, but exhibited little self-agency and as I recall displayed traits indicating neoteny.
