seems like it’s 97% memes or news articles. i love a good shitpost but this site would be even better with in depth nuanced discussion – especially with a higher quality userbase than reddit

Gotta have more users for text posts. I don’t know about you guys but if I see a text post with 10 comments I move on unless I have something good to say. I’m way more likely to get involved if 500 comments are already there. Does this make sense? Probably not, but it’s very intuitive.

    • I prefer the opposite because then it’s much more likely to get a response. Something that already has a few hundred or few thousand comments is when I just shitpost snark because it’s not even likely to be seen by anyone other than possibly the OP through getting notifications of replies.

the lemmy sorting is way better though, it seems like something can be at the top of hot even if posted late in the lifespan of a post

Yes, it kind of does. Idk why, but I’m very likely to engage on comments, but very unlikely to be the first person to comment on a post. I recognized this the other day when I clicked a post I wanted to comment on, realized there were no comments, and hit the back button. But then I realized how that’s kind of dumb, and not great behavior for a fledgling website, so I went back and commented.
