The main reason for that has to be the price factor I feel like, although I could be overlooking another reason.
I will never buy a product produced by Meta, so whenever I do decide to pony up for a headset, it will most likely be a Valve product.
Its more than pure price, the quest 3 is also higher resolution, stand alone, pancake lenses, wireless…
I have a quest 3, and absolutely love mine, use it both for wireless pcvr and standalone gaming.

Not really, the “meta nonsense” is the entire operating system,
You can always just use it for PCVR, and never use the meta store. You can also just sideload apps.
You still need to register the device with a meta account. It’s part of the initial setup and there isn’t a way to bypass it.
For sure, not sure if it’s possible to bypass that, but even if you get banned, you can still PCVR
The hardware is pretty open to being hacked; but there isn’t really a huge community for doing so.
Damn, that’s definitely a reason to use it over Valves headset. I wonder if their next one will include some of these features.
Based on the various patents & Steam update code “leaks”, the Deckard does potentially have all of those features, and more. Assuming it all makes it into the final product of course, which could also render it a very expensive enthusiast piece of equipment most likely.
i hope so. the setup of my quest 3 is so fast, literally seconds. Love taking it out to show friends.
I’m just sitting here waiting patiently for Valve to put out a new headset so I can upgrade from my Quest 1. Never wanna give Meta any more of my money.
I was upset because I bought my Oculus headset before Facebook acquired it and then forced me to have a log in of theirs.
I decided not to have a Facebook account for a reason. Mainly because I don’t trust the company with my data. As enticing it is to have a VR headset and I would love to for their price … … I just don’t want to give Meta any more of my cash.
What’s happening in VR now is that Meta is licensing their Horizon OS so maybe other manufacturers can make their own headsets with Meta’s OS on top. That introduces another problem because I don’t trust that their OS isn’t spying on me either …
I would bet good money that their OS is spying you and me and everyone.
Might want to check out Bigscreen Beyond VR and Shiftall Megane X.
The Bigscreen one is already out and looks like a nice upgrade over the Valve Index.Does it really cost 1.5k?!
1k
This is on a Lemmy.ca instance, it’s basically $1,500 CAD

Oh. Didn’t consider that
This looks very much like an upgrade. Components of the VR system are not included, such as controllers and a base station. Buying those from Steam to go with this headset adds $570 CAD to the price for a new setup.
As a fan of VR, Meta having such a foothold in the space sucks so much ass. I don’t care how “good” their hardware is, I’m never giving them money.
