They could really do with better explanation of the federated servers before people sign up. I did do a little research before I knew which instance to use
Well, that’s why open source is so powerful - everything can (and, in fact, should) be done by community for community
Usually developers aren’t good writers :)
Yeah, I admittedly havent looked into it too much but if it were easy enough I’d set up an instance at the very least to host users.
I just got 500 Internal Server Error
The amount of people has increased, even within the last few days, a bigger community is always better, but I’d like us to keep the same optimistic and appreciative attitudes we all seem to have at the moment, that would really make it so much better than Reddit
That’s why I’m here Obi Wan meme
Check this out!
Can’t do that on reddit!
There’s always a better meme.
Do we have a /c/prequelmemes? I love me some prequelmemes
I think is just Star Wars, search to find it.
Found it right after commenting
Hello there!
I left Reddit weeks ago. Not looking back.
I do sometimes look back, kind of, but more like watching a train wreck with popcorn than anything
I really don’t understand how people can still use reddit with a clean conscience especially after their treatment to Christian and other 3rd party developers. They’ve made it clear with their words and actions that they don’t give a fuck about their users, so how can a respectful person still choose to stay? It was a lost cause since the beginning, the protests were never going to work. I appreciate the ones who’ve decided to abandon the ship and join us here.
People are desensitized.
Most services or products have some toe dipped in shady shit, so people have been forced to learn to reconcile with participating more or less in a least some unethical bullshit, just to have a normal life.
Want to have a t-shirt? Probably just supported slave labour.
Want to talk to a friend? Probably just sold you digital soul to a megacorp, and at least two foreign powers.
Your so right. All these things are because of capitalism. If we could tear that down we may get a chance to fix things. But as long as it exists the world will keep getting worse.
undefined> But as long as it exists the world will keep getting worse
The hope I have is that one day, with all the wealth this country has amassed through capitalism, the government can redistribute that wealth to improve the quality of life for citizens. Use that wealth to improve health care, affordable education, build a shit load of homes for people, I can go on and on.
It’s not wealth itself, it’s the way it’s used.
I get what you’re saying and I also completely understand why people have become desensitised but there’s nothing more dangerous than an apathetic society.
We can’t end world hunger, but we can atleast feed a poor person. We can’t end child labour, but we can atleast sponsor a child’s education and basic necessities.
Just because we can’t end it all doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try and contribute to make our society a better place in whatever way we can.
I agree, and its one of the reasons I push the people around me to think about how the world works more.
I can’t fix everything, but I’m doing what I can, and I try to get the passive people I can get to, to snap out of it.
You said you couldn’t understand these people, but it’s possible. And doing so, is step one of getting through to them.
I don’t think that just because some people don’t abandon Reddit now means they’re apathetic or desensitized in general. There’s so many things wrong with the world and not everyone can and will fight everything all the time. People have different item on the top of their lists.
I’m certain you are doing things in your life others would be flabbergasted at like you are here. For example: Do you eat meat, tuna, stuff with palm oil? Do you have pets? Do you drive a car? There’s people out there who’d call you apathetic to the problems these things cause.
I’m certainly not a saint 100% of the time because if I tried I’d fall apart. Like everyone else would.
Edit: removed double negative
I think the biggest takeaway here is time. I have a massive to-do list and priority list, and realistically I don’t have the time to research every single product I buy, what services I subscribe to, nor do I really have time to volunteer because I’m working so much to keep myself and my wife afloat. I do my damnedest to make informed decisions on products I buy, but at the end of the day, there is not such thing as ethically sourced gasoline. I’m down to do something or anything to help change society, but every option at the moment either gets you locked up, made a mockery, or made a martyr.
Absolutely true, when i saw that there are even people defending Reddit i just had to get rid of it.
I want to distance myself from this shit or my blood will boil over.
Cheers to a new home with people doing something against these megacorp practices these days.
“But companies must make profits! It’s what they are for!”
It’s disgusting. As if corporations technically being soulless, justifies them behaving in the exact way that implies they would, and do.
Check this out:
You do

to do that.Thaaat’s Jerboa! Works in web and on Thunder, for me.
undefined> so how can a respectful person still choose to stay?
You have to keep in mind that most, maybe majority of people, are just consumers. They don’t care about the background stuff going on as long as they can access their favorite source of content. You can say the same thing about Twitter. People won’t care until it directly affects them.
Already here
Tbh I just hope that reddit will fail after 1st of july just so they would finally understand that the community is everything.
It won’t die in a straight line, but this is an inflection point that can help this or another platform mature to the point that it becomes an easier move for the next wave of dissidents.
I can’t speak for others, but for me Apollo WAS Reddit. With it being gone, I’ve now moved on to Lemmy with wefwef.
Hopefully with time (and a growing user base) we can all call this place our new home!
Sync for Reddit just went offline so here I am.
RIF has also now fallen
Yup that’s why I’m here lol
Whoa, joined 3 minutes ago. Welcome to lemmy!
If we keep informing people about them.
wefwef.app is the best rn imo; starting to feel like Apollo already.
I say people should keep pushing Lemmy apps in reddit until at least a week after Sync for Lemmy is out in a few weeks
It’s a pretty good Apollo clone! It will tide me over in my grief, at least. However long that takes.
I cant get wefwef to work it keeps saying “problem fetching posts”
lemmy.world is ratelimiting the app. You’ll have to use another instance for now or wait for the next update
Go to inbox, then inbox(all). Select your instance and then your login credentials.
A lot of people have already left
RedditFuggit and moved to Fedi as we have seen over the past couple of weeks. And those who are still sitting there, they are either in a dilemma and unable to make up their minds, or they live under a seriously big rock and have no idea what’s going on with this API saga, and the Third Party Apps stopping to work on July 1 will be a nasty surprise for them.
In short, it’s unlikely that they will overcome the surprise/dilemma in just a day and jump over to Lemmy immediately.
The Fuggit --> Lemmy migration will continue as it is today, but I don’t think there will be a catastrophic spike on July 1.
And many will just move to oficial app
I have to agree with this. It’d be nice to get another spike like we had last time, but I really doubt it. Sure, people may still come after the 30th, but not like the previous spike we had before.
There may not be as much of a user spike, but I would think there will be a content spike. How much Reddit content is posted using 3rd party apps, and how many of those content creators are going to swap to the official app vs utilizing alternatives such as Lemmy for future postings?
I hope so. More good content would be nice. Still wishing some of the smaller subs I was in reddit migrates to lemmy. And fair point about the TPA users, although I can imagine many of them already moved to lemmy previously.
I think the apps no longer working will be the impetus for many to actually search up options. They almost certainly know about the API saga, but not necessarily about Lemmy or the fediverse. Until now, many likely held onto hope that this shit would turn around, and they won’t have been considering a plan B.
There is totally content that I miss being over here but it’s very much niche small communities that just don’t have a real motivation to move or individual content curators that do it for fun and aren’t being impacted by the changes.
Was browsing Sync For Reddit a few minutes ago when it finally shut down. Just got the following notification:
Sync For Reddit has shutdown Thank you for using Sync. It’s been one hell of a ride.
Man am I pissed, but I’m happy to be here now.
On the bright side, he’s making sync for lemmy now
If you didn’t already know
I’m in the same boat
We’re gonna need a bigger boat.
Seems a good a thread as any for my first post. Exciting times. Reddit showing its true colours might well make the internet just a little bit of a better place if it helps the Fediverse take off.
We are already here.
I’m excited for everyone to see how much better Lemmy is. I’m really happy we have a good option outside of Reddit.
I’ll admit I’m moving from reddit and don’t yet understand what lemmy and the fediverse are all about. I’m currently using the Connect for Lemmy app. So far it feels like there’s a lot less content here, or I have no idea how to find the popular instances/communities. Another small gripe I have is when I search for a community (eg. gamedev) there’s multiple that seem to be about the same thing. I’ve subscribed to them all and I guess that’s just the nature of decentralized communities but it certainly makes the user experience a bit less seamless.
Does anyone have tips on how to best utilize Lemmy?
I honestly mind-blowing the way it has come alive in the last few weeks.
Brand new here, seems a little clunky but I’ll get used to it.
It does take a bit of poking around to learn, but once you get the hang of it things are pretty good. I’m excited for Sync for Lemmy so I have a more familiar app to use.
I currently trying https://wefwef.app/ interface, and it’s really clean (copy of Apollo ui)
Been using Wefwef the last couple days and it’s great.
